What factors are responsible for the rise in homelessness? What are the historical forces that led to this national crisis? Homelessness has become a problem for many communities in New Hampshire. It is a preventable problem but most of the strategies communities have used to prevent and address it haven’t worked well. Dr. Vissing will present Understanding Homelessness in NH which examines the history of homelessness and commonly used approaches to understand it and do something about it. Dr. Vissing was awarded a National Institute of Mental Health Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship. She is an expert in the area of homeless children and youth and works closely with the National Coalition for the Homeless. Dr. Vissing is the founder of Salem State University's Center for Child Studies and is active on the international level working for children's well-being.
